Whale Watcing Knysna

Whale Watcing Knysna

Across vast ranges, many whale species are navigating their way around the world’s oceans, taking part in epic annual migrations. Each winter, both the southern right and humpback whales participate in an ancient migratory ritual, leaving their frosty feeding grounds off Antarctica to mate and calve in the warmer waters off our Southern African coastline. The Bryde’s whale is year round resident in our Southern African waters.

withan approachable distance of 50m, and if they then approach us we are permitted to stay and observe, Knysna is one of South Africa’s premier whale watching destinations, its indigo depths teeming with hundreds of migrating whales.

We are passionate about showcasing both the whales that frequent our local waters as well as the many other fascinating species that exist within the complex web of marine life.

Our whale watching trips depart three times daily (weather and sea conditions permitting) Launching from Thesen Island in Knysna, from here we cruise across the sweeping Knysna estuary and out to sea through the dramatic Knysna Heads in search of myriad marine life.
